TECHNICAL BUYING GUIDE

Memory compatibility checklist

Match the module to the platform.

1. Identify the platform completely

Record the device or motherboard model, CPU, BIOS revision and installed modules. Consult the system documentation for memory generation, socket format and capacity limits.

2. Separate module types

Specify desktop UDIMM or notebook SO-DIMM and explicitly state ECC and registered/unbuffered requirements when relevant. Server memory should be evaluated against the exact platform rather than chosen solely by physical fit.

3. Compare part numbers, not only speed labels

Capacity, data rate, timings, ranks and chip organization can matter. Ask for a full part number and its specification. A kit’s advertised profile should not be assumed to run on every host.

4. Validate the intended population

Test the number of modules and slot arrangement planned for deployment. Record recognition, stability and actual operating settings on the approved host. Define how later component changes will be evaluated.

Use the actual product datasheet and host documentation for final decisions. Further reading: Samsung SSD installation guidance and Kingston memory overview.
